Historical Napa Valley snowfall delays budbreak

Vineyard 7 & 8 in Spring Mountain District AVA

Napa Valley woke up to an unusual site on the morning of Friday, February 24: 12+ inches of snow on the hillsides surrounding the valley (and even a light dusting on the valley floor in some areas). While the snow was quite the topic of conversation throughout the weekend—especially as visitors around the globe joined us for our Premiere Napa Valley events—there is no cause for concern. In fact, the snow is just another form of water during the vineyards’ current period of dormancy. “While the cold weather will likely delay bud break throughout Napa Valley, the snow won’t significantly impact vineyards,” according to Napa Valley Grapegrowers.
