Rob Hunter, winemaker at Bennett Lane, shared with us that budbreak doesn’t just signify that the wines are getting to work, it also means that vineyard managers all over Napa Valley will get to work, starting with removing extra buds that pop up all over the grapevine. If left, these buds would turn into canes, which would make the vineyard unmanageable and take energy away from the primary shoots.
